Annette Funicello, then 13 years old, was found in the hands of Walt Disney in an amateur performance of Swan Lake performed in Fullerton California. The Funicello's Mickey Mouse Club teammates were in a state of dismay at the time Funicello became part of the cast in season one of the show, without needing to be auditioned for. Disney was right as Funicello became The Mickey Mouse Club's top performer, and was included in Adventures in Dairyland, her storyline. Funicello needed to record records in order to realize her superstar potential. Annette was not very enthusiastic about her voice, and so Disney enlisted Tutti Camerata to be her manager, to help guide her as an artist. Funicello grew to love recordings and collaborated alongside Camerata who was one of the only forty-something arranging professionals of this time who was aware of the foundations of early music. Annette Sings Anka - her third studio album was the first album to utilize the music of an artist from the rock genre as selection of songs. Funicello was the main character in Beach Party, one of five films about beach parties which were hugely successful. Usually co-starring Frankie Avalon, these films were produced by AIP However, the scripts of each film have been personally accepted and read by Walt Disney to maintain Annette's pure image.
